Romanian nonprofit Geeks for Democracy has opened a call center for Ukrainians arriving in the country.

The call centre, which became operational on March 10, offers information in Romanian, English and Ukrainian to those who call 0377.300.300.

It is hosted by Impact Hub Bucharest, in its university site.

A team of volunteers is available to take calls between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. and direct requests to specific organizations and public institutions responsible for areas such as transport in Romanian and international territory; housing in Romania; free medical services; legislation and procedures for administrative formalities, employment or entry into the national education system, among others.

The call center will be operating out of its Impact Hub location for the time being, but as needed, remote volunteers may be involved to provide services such as research, translation, etc.

Ukrainian and Russian speakers who wish to volunteer for this project can register here.

More than 400 people responded to the association’s call for volunteers, and 75 are now trained to answer the call center line.

Geeks for Democracy said the initiative was a response to the humanitarian crisis that began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and is intended to support refugees who have arrived in the country.

The immediate needs of those entering Romania relate to transport, accommodation, food, clothing and medical services, and associations working on the ground struggle to manage cases, especially in the absence of translators. , explained the association. The Solidarity Call Center is an additional response, aimed at helping authorities and NGOs to step up their efforts, he said.

The call center solution is offered by Anya, part of the Nobel Group.
