SEOUL, Dec. 28 (Korea Bizwire) – The National Police Agency announced on Monday the establishment of a new service to verify the location and situation of people calling 112 (the emergency telephone number of the police) via smartphones in video format in real time.
If callers click on a link included in an SMS sent from an emergency call center 112, their current position and the situation taken by their smartphone camera will be transmitted in real-time video format to the operators of the center.
Without the need to request a location service, this service allows operators of an emergency call center to verify the precise location of those making emergency calls, as well as to monitor their smartphone camera remotely.
The videos and messages received by the emergency call center are given to the police on site in the form of a file, allowing them to view the content via a smartphone or tablet.
Police stressed that during criminal incidents and disasters or situations where callers do not know their location or cannot speak, the new service should help understand their real situation faster and more accurately.
