This is a press release from the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services:

The Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Human Services Call Center continues to be closed on Wednesdays due to staffing shortages, but immediate access to eligibility information is available.

The number of staff has continued to decline since the decision taken in December to close every week. Between vacancies and furloughed staff, the call center is currently 41% staffed, with approximately 16 workers answering all eligibility calls.

As a result, the call center was forced to remain closed one day a week, on Wednesdays, to allow staff time to conduct interviews and process existing requests for CalFresh and Medi-Cal.

Clients wishing to reach staff on Wednesdays can visit one of the following social services offices, which remain open five days a week:

  • Eureka, 929 Koster St.
    7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
